Tim Orbos, I-ACT head, said the drivers had been given 24 hours to have their units undergo roadworthiness check at the Land Transportation Office.

During operation at different staging areas, I-ACT members conducted roadside inspection and found 200 jeepney units with defective parts and accessories, and 44 emitting excessive smoke.

Gears and parts inspected were the unit’s wheels, brakes, suspension, smoke emission, tail lights, etc.

Earlier today, I-ACT personnel began flagging down smoke-belching and decrepit PUVs along Marcos Highway and Dona Carmen, along Commonwealth, Quezon City.

The LTO has two refurbished and fully operational motor vehicle inspection systems (MVIS) lanes at its main office in East Avenue, Quezon City, and two more MVIS lanes at the LTO office Pasay City.

Aside from LTO, DOTr, and MMDA, other members of I-ACT are the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group.
