2 former SJ councilors seek Sandiganbayan nod for travel » Manila Bulletin News

Former San Juan City councilors Jannah Ejercito-Surla and Andoni Miguel Carballo has filed a motion before the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division hoping to travel to Hong Kong and Macau from July 24 to 31, 2017 for business and leisure activities.

The two did not reveal what their business plans are in their motion, but Carballo is a businessman currently managing and implementing active contracts with the government. They provided their trip details and hotel booking details and stressed to the court that they are not flight risks.

Ejercito-Surla has been allowed to travel several times in the past, and she already posted a P6,000 travel bond which she has not withdrawn. She also has a husband and two minor children – 12-year-old Yamila Natasha and 11-year-old Nicolo – who all live in the Philippines.

Carballo, on the other hand, has been allowed to travel by the court as well, oftentimes with Ejercito-Surla. Like her, he is married with children – 10-year-old Bianca Mikaela and 7-year-old Julia – so his return to the country is also guaranteed.

“Both accused are willing and able to post a travel bond in whatever reasonable amount this Honorable Court may require, and commit themselves to personally appear before this Honorable Court immediately upon arrival,” their motion reads.

Ejercito-Surla and Carballo are just two of the many individuals tagged in the technical malversation case filed before the Sandiganbayan Sixth division. Other accused include former Senator Jose Victor “JV” Ejercito and former vice mayor Francisco Zamora.

Ejercito is the niece of former president and current Manila City mayor Joseph Estrada.
