NASUGBU, Batangas — A total of 14 suspected members of New People’s Army (NPA) were killed while five persons were wounded including three officers from the government troops in two separate military clashes with armed men in Nasugbu town Tuesday night.

An initial report from Batangas Police Provincial Office (BPPO) identified the wounded as Philippine Air Force (PAF) Major Engilberto A. Nioda Jr, 2Lt Eliseo Incierto, PAF, and Philippine Army (PA) TSG Kenneth Lopez. They were taken to the nearest hospital.

Report said joint elements of 730th Combat Group and Batangas Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) with Nasugbu Police while conducting report validation in response to a call from an informant about the presence of armed men, were fired upon by the suspects who were on board a jeepney and a closed van at Sitio Pinamantasan, Barangay Aga, at around 8:30 p.m.

The government troops were able to neutralize five NPAs while 2 of their cohorts and 3 military men were wounded in the first clash.

Authorities recovered 5 long firearms at the clash site.

Meanwhile, another encounter with armed men led by Nasugbu chief of police, Chief Inspector Rogelio B. Pineda and 1LT Elmer M. Barcenas (PAF) was reported in Sitio Batulao, Barangay Kaylaway—about 2 kilometers away from the first encounter site.

Batangas Acting Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Alden Delvo said eight men and one woman were killed, and no reported casualties in the military side in the second encounter.

Authorities initially recovered seven M16 rifles, an M79 grenade launcher, magazines and ammunitions, one backpack and red closed van with plate ADH-2750.
